Québec City, May 15, 2018. – The Québec consulting engineering awards ceremony (Grands Prix du génie-conseil québécois) was held on Monday, May 14. One of the awards recognizing excellence in engineering went to Québec City Jean Lesage International Airport (YQB) and SNC-Lavalin in the “mechanical and electrical building engineering” category. YQB and its partner Stantec were also nominated in the “building structure” category.
“The award and nomination mean a lot to our teams, who have been working strenuously for several years to deliver the biggest-ever expansion project in the history of YQB, on-time and on-budget. Since the start of the project, our rigorous and innovative approach have set the YQB team apart and earned us recognition as experts in planning, engineering and construction. This prestigious award will encourage us to continue on this trajectory and improve our approach,” says Daniel Perreault, VP Infrastructure at YQB.
The YQB 2018 project was designed using an innovative Building Information Modeling approach, for the first time ever in Québec in a project of this scope. It also aimed to raise the level of sustainable development using geothermal energy, automated lighting, heat recovery and the controlled inflow of fresh air. These key innovations, among others, were mentioned at the award ceremony yesterday.
YQB 2018 involved a dozen construction and IT projects all running at the same time, including a refurbishment of the airport's runways. The result is four new passenger gates, self-serve check-in kiosks, automated self-service customs kiosks, charging stations for smartphones and tablets, bigger food courts offering a wider range of meals, more baggage carrousels serving international flights, a more user-friendly and better-designed customs area, a duty-free store that is four times larger, a larger capacity luggage area, automated baggage drop-off facilities, and dynamic communications and signage systems, including the YQB mobile application.
The Grands Prix du génie-conseil québécois awards highlight the engineering expertise applied in the industry's best projects and recognize the value added by engineering to projects of all kinds. For more information, see: http://afg.quebec/grands-prix/2018/edition-seize.
