The air transportation industry is probably one of the hardest hit by the current crisis. Like many airports, Québec City Jean Lesage International Airport (YQB) saw its forward momentum abruptly brought to a halt in 2020.

Confronted with a very demanding context, we decided to focus on levers that would allow us to develop differently and remain a driver of economic development for the greater Québec City area.

Bounce forward after a year marked by an unprecedented crisis

“We are working tirelessly to prepare for recovery so that our airport can quickly regain the momentum that was so abruptly brought to a halt. Until we know when recovery will be possible, we will be actively working on the how.”

Stéphane Poirier, president and CEO
Québec City Jean Lesage International Airport

Last December 2020, YQB unveiled a plan to revive airport operations and diversify its activities and revenues while strengthening its role as a driver of regional economic development.

Remaining steady through the storm

“It’s true that we have little control over our industry’s trajectory as we emerge from the global pandemic. However, we were—and are—in the best position to think about how we can emerge from this ordeal stronger than ever, equipped with levers to generate growth.”

Lise Lapierre, outgoing Chair of YQB’s Board of Directors.

At both the Board of Directors and YQB management levels, we are working tirelessly to lay the groundwork so that our airport can quickly regain the momentum that was so abruptly halted.

Strong community support

A region’s vitality and attractiveness depend largely on the strength of its airport. YQB is relying on teamwork and the region’s driving forces to support a sustainable recovery.

“The management of the Québec City airport has excellent knowledge of our industry and understands our issues. A cargo terminal is very positive for us. YQB’s choice to put these infrastructures at the service of our companies reflects a real desire to help us regain our momentum and extend our service offer.”
