QUÉBEC CITY JEAN LESAGE INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT ANNUAL PUBLIC MEETING
PURSUING OUR ACSENCION TOWARDS NEW HEIGHTS
March 23, 2011 – The Chair of the Board of the Québec City Airport, Mr. Guy Vachon, and the President and Chief Executive Officer Mr. Gaëtan Gagné, presented the Québec City Jean Lesage International Airport’s Annual Report today, at the annual public meeting.
The 2010 Annual Report, entitled “Ascension 2010”, clearly shows that Aéroport de Québec inc. is continuing to climb to new heights, especially in the number of passengers, with increases of 24.1% in transborder traffic, 17.2% for domestic traffic and 5.1% in international traffic for a total increase in traffic of 15%. Also, a new historic height was reached as 1, 190,088 passengers travelled through the Québec City Airport. ”These statistics clearly show all the dynamism of our airport and the essential role we play as an economic lever in the Québec City region”, said Gaëtan Gagné.
Mr. Gagné also took the opportunity to point out the importance of providing adequate facilities at the airport which will allow for new development and thus reach new, realistic goals, set out by Arup in the 2010-2035 Master Plan.
“The first phase of the expansion was a great success since we saw a 52% increase in passenger traffic in the last four years. We all know that we have great developmental potential and we have several projects on the table. With the $50 million announcement by the Federal Government last week, along with an equal investment we are confident the Provincial Government will provide, we will be able to begin the first part of the second phase of expansion very soon”, said Mr. Gagné.
Financial Results Beyond Expectations
2010 was also a very successful year financially as revenues rose to $35.6 million. Strict control of administrative and operation costs played a large part in allowing for a gross operating profit of $14.37 million and a $6.9 million surplus, which is $3.4 million above the 2010 estimate.
“We are extremely proud of our financial results for 2010. They prove that the efforts made in our planning as well as our strict follow-up gave positive results. These results, above and beyond our expectations, will allow us to reinvest a significant surplus in our development projects”, said Mr. Guy Vachon.
Mr. Vachon also pointed out that the administrative structure changes, begun in 2009, were finalized in 2010. Thus, the Québec City Airport is ready to take up the challenges of increasing passenger traffic as well as bring all new projects to fruition.
Since November 1, 2000, the Québec City Airport has been responsible for the management, operation, maintenance and development of the Québec City Jean Lesage International Airport. Approximately a dozen carriers offer multiple connections to various destinations in North America, the Caribbean, Mexico and Europe, 50 direct flights a day to major cities in Eastern Canada and the United States, such as Montréal, Ottawa, Toronto, New York, Detroit, Cleveland, Washington, Chicago and Philadelphia and over 40 chartered flights a week to sun destinations as well as Paris and Marseille.
