Québec City, June 18, 2016. – Québec City Jean Lesage International Airport (YQB) has had to carry out runway repairs to ensure the safety of all passengers. The runway intersection repairs were completed during the night of Friday to Saturday, and the main runway became fully operational on Saturday, June 18, 2016, a day before the original deadline. The airport remained open and operational for airlines and passengers throughout the repairs.
“I am proud of our teams, who were able to deliver this major repair project within the allotted timeframe,” said Gaëtan Gagné, President and CEO of Aéroport de Québec inc. “Our aim was to minimize the potential impacts of the work for our passengers, and I can now say: mission accomplished.”
The runway intersection repairs created a number of challenges for the airport, since both runways were affected at the same time. Work will continue on the secondary runway until July 3, 2016, to complete the repairs, and will resume next year on the main runway.
