Kuujjuaq

Art is all around in Nunavik, with murals on the buildings, sculptures and jewellery available for purchase in shops, and beautiful pieces adorning many interiors. Kuujjuaq itself is better known for handicraft than the soapstone sculpture often associated with Inuit art, but artisans from all over the region work and exhibit in the village, so you’ll be able to appreciate a wide range of talent and know-how on a visit here.

In this subpolar climate, large animals like the polar bear, caribou and muskox thrive. Observe these magnificent beasts in their natural habitat—and from a safe distance—thanks to expert advice. Arctic foxes and hares, birds of prey, and several kinds of bears can be spotted at different times of the year on day trips outside the village. These animals have perfectly adapted over millennia to live in these conditions, and it’s truly a privilege to see them in all their glory.

From fresh fish and game to twists on classics and traditional dishes, there are lots of new tastes to discover in Kuujjuaq. Local stores even sell delicious products to take home, such as tea made of botanicals from Nunavik and caribou jerky.

With so many lakes, rivers and forests in Nunavik, the urge to play outside is almost irresistible.
