Havre- Saint- Pierre
A getaway among limestone monoliths and endless beaches
Located in Minganie east of Sept-Îles, Havre-Saint-Pierre is the regional county municipality’s largest town and a popular stop along the Whale Route. Originally called Pointe-aux-Esquimaux, the community was founded in 1857 by Acadian fishing families from Îles-de-la-Madeleine. It was later renamed Havre-Saint-Pierre in honour of the patron saint of fishing. Bordered by long sandy beaches and looking out over the Gulf of St. Lawrence, this town—celebrated for the vibrant culture of its residents, who in French are called Cayens and Cayennes—is a favoured starting point to explore the islands of the Mingan Archipelago.
