Planning a Stress-Free Return to YQB

12 jul

Headed back home after a stay abroad? Here are some tips to help you enjoy the last day of your trip while making your return to Canada as smooth as possible.

Check in online

Many airlines give you the option to check in and reserve your seats on their websites within 24 hours of your flight. Checking in ahead of time will save you time at the airport.

Make sure you’re complying with border regulations

First of all, we encourage you to learn about the requirements for entry into Canada and make sure you’re aware of any changes. Learn about all of the requirements by reading the checklist of requirements for entering Canada by air.

As you pack, refer to the Canada Border Services Agency website to find out what you can and can’t bring back to Canada. It has everything you need to know about what’s permitted, what’s regulated, and what’s prohibited.

For more information on what you can bring back to Canada: https://travel.gc.ca/returning/customs/what-you-can-bring-home-to-canada.

Download the free ArriveCAN app

Before you arrive in Canada, you can download the ArriveCAN app and submit your customs and immigration declaration within 72 hours of your arrival in Canada. Once you have provided your declaration, a receipt will be displayed and emailed to you.

At Québec City airport, you will have to scan your passport at the kiosk to retrieve your declaration before finalizing the process. You will receive a printed receipt from the kiosk which you will need to show a Border Services Officer.

Using the functionality, via the ArriveCAN mobile application, for customs and immigration declaration is optional but simplifies the procedures for entering Canada. For more information about the ArriveCAN app, please visit the Use ArriveCAN for a faster border experience page of the Government of Canada website.

Don’t forget to charge your phone

You’ll need your smartphone to use ArriveCAN and CanBorder, so make sure it’s fully charged before you get to the customs area! You may want to bring a portable charger with you.

Plan your trip home

If you didn’t take advantage of our outdoor lot or parking garage, there are plenty of other ways to get home.

Take a cab or a limo

You can reserve your ride in advance by calling one of the companies that serve YQB. Reserving ahead of time means you won’t have to wait when you get back.

Take the bus with the Réseau de transport de la Capitale (RTC)

RTC routes 76 and 80 run between Québec City Jean Lesage International Airport and Sainte-Foy and downtown Québec City, respectively. Visit the RTC website to learn more: https://www.rtcquebec.ca/en/.

Use a ride-sharing service

Uber and the Eva ride-sharing cooperative are both available at Québec City Jean Lesage International Airport. Download their mobile apps to book your ride.

Ask someone you know

Is someone coming to pick you up? Make sure they know they can use the free CellPARQ waiting area! They can wait there until you call or text them to say you’re ready to go, then meet you in one of the pick-up/drop-off spaces in front of the terminal.
