Québec City, December 18, 2015. The end of 2015 marks a major step in the work to expand Québec City Jean Lesage International Airport. The new access road to the terminal has been fully operational for a few days. This is the first piece of the new terminal’s infrastructure to be fully completed.
The route of the terminal access road was altered significantly in order to serve both the current building and the new section of the terminal. Ultimately, the road will have four lanes: two for passengers and two for taxis, buses, and limousines. There are two passenger drop-off areas (one for each clientele) next to the lanes. The four traffic lanes are separated by a 130-meter-long shelter for passengers. Engineering work had been under way since 2014 to complete this important phase in the expansion project. Signage at the site was also fully revamped.
Airport president and CEO Gaëtan Gagné is delighted to see that the work started in 2015 is all progressing according to the schedule set at the beginning of the year. “YQB 2018 is an ambitious project in terms of budget and scheduling and we have very little wiggle room,” he said. “I’m proud of the work we’ve accomplished so far. Our teams are working tirelessly to meet the objectives we set. In 2015, we logged 50,000 hours of work directly on the site.”
In addition to the access road, other major phases of the YQB 2018 project have been completed:
- Relocation of underground services +
- Temporary access points +
- Electrical system replacement +
- Road extension (9e rue) +
- Excavation work for the new terminal +
- Foundation work for the new terminal +
