WestJet announces new non-stop flights to Fort Lauderdale and Cancun

QUEBEC CITY AIRPORT UPS THE NUMBER OF ITS SUNNY DESTINATIONS FOR WINTER 2010-2011

August 11, 2010 – Travellers wishing to fly to sunny destinations from Québec City Jean-Lesage International Airport will be happy to learn that new non-stop flights are now available.

Today, WestJet announced two new destinations from Québec City. Every Saturday, between December 11, 2010 and April 30, 2011, travellers can enjoy a non-stop flight from Québec City to Cancun, Mexico. WestJet will also be offering a non-stop flight every Sunday, from December 12, 2010 until April 24, 2011, to Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

“We are very pleased by WestJet’s announcement today since we will be able to offer more flights to our clients who are becoming increasingly aware of the advantages of departing from the Québec City Airport. The fact that carriers are increasing the number of flights from Québec City is a reflection of a growing clientele and of the vitality and potential of our airport”, said Gaëtan Gagné, President and CEO of the airport. With the addition of these two new flights to the South this winter, Québec City Airport’s clients will have access to over 40 flights a week to sunny destinations for the 2010-2011 winter season.

Mr. Gagné also declared that the airport continues to forge ahead in 2010, with an average 13% increase in passenger traffic since the beginning of the year. Thanks to the new state-of-the-art facilities and outstanding customer service which puts the passenger first, Québec City Jean-Lesage International Airport remains a major economic driver in the Québec City region.

Since November 1, 2000, the Quebec City Airport has been responsible for the management, operation, maintenance, and development of the Quebec City Jean Lesage International Airport. Over 10 carriers offer multiple connecting routes in North America, the Caribbean, Mexico and Europe, with over 50 direct, non-stop flights a day to major cities in Eastern Canada and the United States such as Montréal, Ottawa, Toronto, New York, Detroit, Cleveland, Washington and Chicago and over 45 chartered flights a week in the winter to Paris, Bordeaux and Nantes.

For immediate release

ANNUAL PUBLIC MEETING AÉROPORT DE QUÉBEC CONTINUES ITS GROWTH

Québec City, April 30, 2010 – Despite the challenges posed by the world economic situation, Aéroport de Québec continued to grow and develop in 2009. Although there was a slowdown in domestic traffic, the exceptional growth in transborder and international traffic allowed the organization to attain a historic high of 1,035,000 passengers, added on to a marked increase in available services, flights, and destinations.

“These team successes stem first and foremost from the trust an increasing number of passengers are placing in us, and we’d like to thank them once again for this trust,” said Guy Vachon, Chair of the Board. “The 2009 annual report shows our development efforts once again bearing fruit, enabling us to meet ever higher expectations. Our modern, efficient, cutting-edge facilities also help attract and retain carriers and are undoubtedly a big part of the story. More than ever, Jean Lesage International Airport has become a major gateway and a center of vitality and growth.

Another year of growth

Despite the world economic crisis that hit the airline industry hard, Aéroport de Québec in 2009 experienced an increase of 1.2% in traffic and 14% in revenues across the board.

This overall performance led to an excess of proceeds over expenses of $4,328,171, compared to $9,589,317 in 2008. These results are particularly remarkable in that Aéroport de Québec experienced for example a 19% increase in operating costs, a 26% increase in payroll, and a 76% increase in payments in lieu of taxes.

The growth in traffic was particularly sustained for transborder and international flights, which experienced increases of 14.5% and 20.3% respectively. This remarkable performance was due to such factors as new connections, including daily United Airlines flights to Chicago, six new weekly southbound connections added by Sunwing, Transat, and Canjet, three new Porter Airlines flights to downtown Toronto, and Transat’s new connections to Bordeaux and Marseille. Just recently, United Airlines announced a daily flight to Washington beginning June 10, 2010. Since 2006, international traffic has more than doubled, while transborder traffic continues its recent surge with an increase of 33%—results that mirror constant increases in available services.

“Our success reflects the dedication, professionalism, and thoroughness of our team shown every day in the promise of a very special airport experience,” said President and CEO Gaëtan Gagné. “Over the next few years, we must continue our efforts in order to deal with increasing traffic and satisfy ever-higher expectations. If current trends continue, we should reach 1.5 million passengers in 2015 and close to 2 million in 2020. It all shows the importance for Aéroport de Québec of getting started with the next investment phase, giving our organization the tools it needs to continue to develop and remain an economic engine for the area.” Since November 1, 2000, Aéroport de Québec Inc. has overseen the management, operation, maintenance, and development of Jean Lesage International Airport. More than a dozen airlines operate out of the airport, servicing multiple destinations in North America, the Caribbean, Mexico, and Europe through more than 50 daily direct flights to Eastern Canada and the United States’ biggest gateways, including Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, New York, Detroit, Cleveland, Washington and Chicago. An additional 45 chartered flights also depart the airport each week in winter, carrying passengers to sunshine destinations, as well as Paris, Bordeaux, Marseille, and Nantes.

American carrier United Airlines has decided to build on the resounding success of its service to Chicago—to which it has added a second direct flight during the summer season—by strengthening its position in Québec City, much to the delight of passengers and the local business community.

“We are especially pleased to be offering our passengers an all-new service to Washington, a true gateway to the Eastern United Airlines States. United Airlines’s decision to renew with us today is a testament to our airport’s appeal. What’s more, it will also help us continue to grow, contribute to wealth creation and development in the region, and—once again—meet our goal of putting passengers first,” said Richard Girard, spokesperson for Québec City Jean Lesage International Airport.

Beginning on June 10 and until November 3, 2010, United Airlines will offer a daily direct flight to Washington’s Dulles Airport, connecting Québec City passengers with hundreds of destinations worldwide. The aircraft, a 50-seat Embraer 145, will depart Québec City at 9 a.m., landing in Washington at 10:57 a.m. The return flight will leave Washington at 6:55 p.m. and land in Québec City at 8:46 p.m.

Québec City, October 1, 2009 – Passengers will soon have more reason than ever to fly out of Québec City: Air Transat will be offering new nonstop flights to Bordeaux and Marseille starting summer 2010. The carrier, which already operates flights to Paris and a number of flights every week to the south from Québec City, has made the move to boost its presence at the airport and offer clients enhanced service.

“We are especially pleased to see our development efforts pay off and to be able to meet passenger needs in concrete terms. The modernization of the terminal has clearly been a worthwhile investment and a key factor in our success,” said president and COO Pascal Bélanger. “Our modern and efficient infrastructure has added to the airport’s appeal and vitality and allows us to attract and keep partners who, like Transat, are consolidating their presence to the benefit of our clients. These two new connections will help us continue to spur the region’s growth and economic development by making it easier for passengers to travel back and forth between France and Québec City.” Mr. Bélanger marked the occasion in the presence of the Transat A.T. president and CEO, the mayor of Québec City, and other socioeconomic stakeholders from the region.

Starting June 23, 2010, and until October 13, 2010, Air Transat will be operating one flight a week between Québec City and Marseille, as well as seven other flights to Bordeaux on June 22, 2010, and from September 7 to October 12, 2010. According to Québec City Tourism, the number of French tourists visiting Québec City was up by 15% in 2008. A large number of them already come from outside the Paris area, but the new connections will no doubt help convince French travelers to come to Québec’s capital in even greater numbers.

Chairman of the board Gaëtan Gagné took the opportunity to reiterate that despite today’s difficult economy, Aéroport de Québec was continuing its expansion, with transborder and international traffic rising by 15.8% and 23.4% respectively over the past few months. “The airport is a first-rate economic engine. We must now go even further to maintain our growth, cope with increased traffic, and meet rising expectations,” said Mr. Gagné, pointing to the expansion of the international area and the construction of a covered parking lot.

Since November 1, 2000, Aéroport de Québec inc. has been responsible for the management, operation, maintenance, and development of Québec City Jean Lesage International Airport. Thirteen carriers offer multiple flights to North America, the Caribbean, Mexico, and Europe, including over 40 direct, nonstop daily flights to major hubs in eastern Canada and the United States, notably Montréal, Ottawa, Toronto, New York, Detroit, and Chicago, and over 40 weekly charter flights (in winter) to holiday destinations in the south, as well as Paris and Nantes.

“Once again our efforts to attract new business and showcase our ‘passenger first’ vision have paid off. Porter Airlines’ renewed vote of confidence is a sign of our terminal’s excitement and appeal. The fully revamped facility is now a driving force in economic development. It offers more capacity and better service, and as Porter Airlines’ announcement demonstrates, it is attracting and keeping carriers, to the direct benefit of our passengers,” said president and COO Pascal Bélanger.

Porter Airlines is famous for its quality service. Its three new daily flights will provide a direct link to downtown Toronto aboard aircraft noted for their particularly high standards of comfort and their low fuel consumption and emissions. “We are very glad to see Porter Airlines consolidate its presence in Quebec City. Its new year-round service to the city fits with our goals of pursuing growth, facilitating access to the region, spurring local economic development, and of course offering our passengers another reason to fly out of Quebec City,” added Mr. Bélanger.

Since November 1, 2000, Aéroport de Québec inc. has been responsible for the management, operation, maintenance, and development of Québec City Jean Lesage International Airport. Some dozen carriers offer service to North American, South American, and European destinations, including more than 50 direct, nonstop daily flights to major hubs in eastern Canada and the United States, including Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, New York, Cleveland, Detroit, and Chicago, and over 30 international charter flights to Paris and Nantes as well as holiday destinations in the south.
